CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Drivers are frustrated with recent road work on North Graham Street near 10th Street on the way into uptown Charlotte.
Patches of pavement that stretch the width of the roadway are missing, leaving abrupt bumps for drivers.
"It's getting rougher and rougher with more traffic," said William Peterson, who drives on North Graham Street almost daily. "Coming over it at a relatively quick speed without signage can also damage my car pretty easily."
The patches appear on the back side of a hill for drivers traveling south on North Graham Street, and drivers said the construction caught them by surprise.
Ryan Moore, who works in the area and uses North Graham Street regularly, pointed out a sign that says "BUMP," warning drivers, but it was toppled over Friday morning.
"There's not a whole lot of signage," Moore said. "There was a sign, but it got knocked over.”
North Graham Street is maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, not the city of Charlotte, according to a map on the city's website.
NCDOT did not immediately respond to Channel 9's messages, asking about the purpose of the project and the timeline for when it will be complete.
Peterson said the bumpy patches have been an issue for him since road workers dug up the pavement about two weeks ago.
"Hoping they fix it pretty soon," Peterson said.
The Panthers have a home game at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday and Moore warned fans to prepare for a bumpy ride. He said traffic gets busy on North Graham Street on game days.
"It's immediate access to the stadium on Graham Street, and it's definitely going to slow a lot of traffic up," Moore said.
