CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte City Council approved a $4.5 million contract Tuesday night to buy five electric buses for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The city wants to start transitioning to an electric fleet by 2020.
The buses cost more money than those that run on diesel but are more durable and a couple hundred thousand dollars cheaper to operate.
