Family calling 5-year-old NC boy 'hero' after saving his mom

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. —
He may be young, but in Rockingham County one family is calling their son a true hero.

Five-year-old Caleb Taylor saved his mom's life, and his own life, after she had a medical emergency while she was driving.

Caleb's mom, Sandra Johnson, said she had a seizure while driving on Lindsey Bridge Road in Madison with Caleb buckled into a car seat in back.

A passerby called 911. "There is a woman fell out on the side of the road … Lindsey Bridge Road, come quick," the caller said.

Caleb described what happened and how he reacted.

"I was asleep. I was taking a nap, and I just woke up.  Then I saw her not driving," Caleb said.

"Mama, are you OK? Mama are you OK?" Caleb asked.  "And then I unbuckled and turned the car off," he said.

Caleb put the car in neutral, pulled the keys from the ignition and ran for help.

"I was pretty scared," Caleb said.

"He was a superhero in my book," said Caleb's father, Robert.

Robert said he doesn't know how Caleb knew what to do, but he's glad he did.  "I guess it was the Lord working his magic. That was all he knew to do," Roberts said.

Robert told Caleb, "You are my hero."

Sandra is recovering and said she is very thankful that her son reacted the way he did.
