CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Stacy LeMay, husband and father of four, made a promise years ago, to race his three sons when he turned 50 years old.
"To keep myself accountable, I gave a promise to my sons: When I'm 50 years old, I would race them in a 40-yard dash and win,” he said.
LeMay challenged his sons, all of whom either played or play college football, on the football field at UNC Charlotte.
The oldest, Christian LeMay, a former North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year, was a two-time All-American who played quarterback at the University of Georgia and Jacksonville State.
Uriah LeMay was an All-American wide receiver at UNC Charlotte. Benny LeMay is a junior preseason all-conference running back at UNCC.
At 50, Stacy LeMay wanted to show all three former Butler Bulldogs who is still top dog in the family.
"Not just a challenge to them, but a challenge to myself to stay in shape and to make sure that I stay on target in being a good healthy father and a husband,” Stacy LeMay said.
Stacy LeMay had a 10-yard head start, but still chalked up the victory.
"I beat ‘em. Daddy taught ‘em one more lesson,” Stacy LeMay said. “I taught ‘em everything they know, but I didn't teach ‘em everything I know."
Stacy LeMay said his family is strong in competitive spirit and love for one another.
"It was a fun time as a family to make fun of the number 50, and so it wasn't a competition against them, it was a competition against the number 50,” Stacy LeMay said.
Stacy LeMay said that, at 60, he'd like to have another challenge, possibly in the weight room.
