Troopers: Thursday's FedEx accident happened because driver asleep at wheel

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C.,None — North Carolina Highway patrol officials said a FedEx truck driver was asleep at the wheel when he crashed his truck on Highway 74 Thursday near the Cleveland and Rutherford county line.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:15 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 74 near the 189 mile marker.

Officials said the truck driver and one other person were injured, but are expected to be OK.
The driver was ticketed for reckless driving, officials said.
The scene of the accident was cleared by 10 a.m., troopers said.
