GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The first project has been formally announced for the long-planned Apple Creek Corporate Center in Gaston County.

On Wednesday morning, GNT USA Inc., the U.S. arm of a Netherlands-based food coloring manufacturer, proclaimed its intentions for an initial investment of $30 million to locate a food-processing operation at Apple Creek.

The company has agreed to pay $2.3 million for a 49.2-acre parcel, according to county documents. GNT will create approximately 40 jobs over several phases. The facility at Apple Creek will be GNT’s second location in the U.S., with the first being in Tarrytown, New York.

“It was clear to us that we wanted to be on the East Coast and as we got a closer look at the long-term economic potential, we were able to narrow down to three states,” said Hendrik Hoeck, chairman of GNT USA. “We are mindful of the painful loss of the textile industry moving its manufacturing out of Gaston County. But what we really admire is the commitment to find new opportunities in new industries.”

A second project is also in the works at Apple Creek.
