YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A former football player at The Citadel, and Rock Hill native, was one of four people who died in a two-car wreck Saturday night, The Citadel's website confirms.
The accident occurred about 9:50 p.m. on Church Street in McConnells in York County.
Mitchell Jeter, 23, was driving when he began to run off the road,overcorrected, and crossed over the center line.
Jeter hit a car carrying three people, including 5-year-old Michaiah Daniels, Jim Daniels, 60, and Patchell Daniels, 39.
All four people involved in the wreck died.
According to The Citadel website, Jeter played football at the school from 2012-15.
“Mitchell was a tremendous young man,” The Citadel coach Brent Thompson said on the school’s website. “It was an honor to coach him. He was invaluable as a teammate and friend. His tireless work ethic allowed him to blossom into one of the dominant defensive players in Citadel history. The Citadel football family is hurting from our loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mitchell's family as we all mourn his tragic and immeasurable loss.”
Jeter was the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
Channel 9 is asking what caused the crash.
