MINT HILL, N.C.,None — A former Mint Hill police officer claims the police department is obstructing justice and letting suspects go free.
Former officer Scott Dimock was fired from his job for speeding and now he is bringing up concerns about the department.
He sent a letter's about his claims to Gov. Bev Perdue and Mecklenburg County's chief district court judge. Dimock said he received letters from Perdue and Judge Lisa Bell, promising to forward his claims to state agencies.
One of Dimock's claims involved a deadly accident on Thompson Road in July, 2009. Dimock was the lead investigator in the case. His report said the teen driver admitted speeding. The report said she lost control and hit a tree. Her brother, in the car with her, died on impact.
Dimock said he wanted to charge the driver and another teen speeding behind her, with involuntary manslaughter. He said his supervisor would not allow it.
"He verbally told me forget about it the case is closed and walked away," said Dimock.
His letter also said, in another case, his superior officers made a mistake that allowed 14 defendants to walk free because they never gave him a notice to appear in court.
"They never gave me a subpoena for people charged with DUI that are safe to drive on your streets now," said Dimock.
Dimock said his claims are not about revenge.
"I have no ax to grind," he said.
Eyewitness News reached out to the mayor and the police chief. The chief said he's been advised by the town's attorney not to talk about the case. He did give Eyewitness News a letter stating the District Attorney's Office looked into Dimock's allegations in the past, but it wasn't compelling enough to start a state investigation.
Since then, Dimock said he's gathered new documents.
