Former WSOC anchor dies after battle with Alzheimer’s disease

CHARLOTTE — The Channel 9 community is mourning the loss of a former anchor this past weekend.

Janet England died on Saturday at the age of 72.

She was one of the first female news anchors in the Carolinas, and she worked at Channel 9 in the 1980s and ‘90s.

England was beloved in our newsroom and in our community. She helped to create our “Family Focus” segment, which still lives on today.

England’s family says she passed away on Saturday after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, her sons, Brett and Chandler, and grandchildren, Addie and Huck.
