The alert was sent 7 p.m. Friday to people living on or near Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in Huntersville. One person and two dogs were exposed to the rabid fox.
Huntersville officials ask those with questions about potential human exposures to call Carson R. Phillips at (980) 314-9214 or Jose Pena at (980) 314-9210.
This is the 6th animal in Mecklenburg County to test positive for rabies in 2021.
North Carolina rabies law requires that all owned dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age (NCGS 130A-185).
