GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County teacher's assistant is accused of having sex with a student. Kelvin Howell, 26, is charged with taking indecent liberties with a student.
Last year, Howell worked at Ashbrook High School, where investigators said he met his 17-year-old accuser. The two reportedly kept in contact after both went to different schools.

A search warrant says Howell went to the girl’s home while she was alone. Her brother came home and saw a stranger’s car in the driveway. The brother opened his sister’s bedroom door and saw Howell with her, according to the warrant. He reportedly told his parents, and they went to police.
Officials said Howell was arrested after an extensive investigation.
