Gastonia police arrest man who led them on chase over 100 mph

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police arrested a man who led them on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour on Saturday morning.

At one point the suspect drove against traffic on the left shoulder of Interstate 85 with stolen cash flying out of his car's windows, police said.

Police arrested Reginald Gene Clinton on Saturday. The driver crashed into a utility pole on Cox Road then took off running with cash in his hands, but officers were able to catch him when he fell, police said.

Police said he may be the same man who held up the Hardee's on York Road at about 4 a.m. followed by a holdup at an Arby's on Garrison Boulevard two hours later.

He's being treated at the hospital.

No word yet on what charges he'll face.
