GASTONIA, N.C. — On Tuesday morning at the Gastonia Conference Center, a new major player was introduced to the city’s ambitious plans at the Franklin Urban Sports and Entertainment District in west Gastonia.

Two major developments for the FUSE District’s $26.2 million ballpark, which is expected to open next year, were revealed.

The second, which involved much more suspense, was the introduction of the team’s owner and the group that would manage the stadium. Leading the team’s ownership group is Brandon Bellamy, the 48-year-old CEO of Maryland-based commercial real estate firm Velocity Cos.

Bellamy said he has been working on the deal to own the team for nine to 10 months. Now that it is done, he is excited to get to work on bringing professional baseball back to Gastonia at the center of a major public-private economic development project.
