Gov. Stein signs bill to speed up removal of illegal squatters

CHARLOTTE — A plan to make it easier to get rid of people illegally living in someone’s home is now a law.

On Tuesday, Governor Josh Stein signed the squatting bill.

This bill allows property owners to ask law enforcement to speed up the removal process.

Originally, Stein vetoed the bill due to a random rule regarding pet stores.

He claimed it would have cleared the way for puppy mills.
