CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 20 people, including former patients, co-workers and ministers, spoke out in support of a Charlotte doctor charged with sexually abusing his patients.
Dr. Fidelis Edosomwon was arrested in February after two female patients accused him of inappropriately touching them during their examinations.
After his arrest and coverage on Channel 9, 34 women have told police those assaults happened at the doctor's former clinic, Americare Health on Milton Road.
Staff was on hand to defend the doctor.
"I have worked with him for 14 years and I've never seen him do these unspeakable things," Vivian Baylor, head nurse, said.
"I was in the room with him; there's no way," said another nurse.
The doctor had initially called a news conference to speak out about the sexual charges he's facing.
But Channel 9 was told he was advised by his attorney not to do so.
The supporters said they felt compelled to stand up for the doctor to fight what they call a vicious witch hunt.
Edosomwon was charged with sexual battery and sexual offense. He voluntarily turned over his medical license.
