Republicans, unaffiliated voters decide NC primary runoff elections

CHARLOTTE — Results are in for several runoff elections in North Carolina.

Republicans and unaffiliated voters who voted Republican in the March primary were eligible to vote in the elections.

Republican candidates in three local races and one statewide race didn’t reach the 30% threshold needed to move on to the primary.

Lieutenant Governor

At the top of the ticket was the lieutenant governor’s race. Former Lt. Gov. Dan Forest’s Chief of Staff Hal Weatherman easily defeated Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill.

Weatherman served as chief of staff for former North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest. He told Channel 9 that his experience in North Carolina sets him apart from his opponent.

State auditor

In the race for state auditor, UNC Chapel Hill Board of Trustees member Dave Boliek defeated NCGA legislative assistant Jack Clark.

Gaston County Commission

Former law enforcement officer Jim Bailey defeated incumbent commissioner Ronnie Worley for the South Point Township seat on the Gaston County Commission. He will face no opposition in November.

District 13

Outside the Channel 9 region, Brad Knott, a candidate supported by former President Donald Trump, decisively won the Republican primary runoff for North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday. His rival had suspended her campaign two weeks ago in response to the endorsement.
