CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives were conducting a homicide investigation Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Camrose Drive off The Plaza in northeast Charlotte.
This was Charlotte's 29th homicide reported in 2018.
Officers responded to the scene at 1:19 p.m. for an assist Medic call for service.
Police said they found a man lying in the doorway unresponsive. Phillip Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the person who called 911 was able to see the Young’s body from the street.
Officers on scene said there was trauma to the victim, but they are still working with the medical examiner to figure out how Young died.
Detectives were canvassing the area to see if there were any witnesses to the incident.
Police, at the time of the murder, said there was no suspect or vehicle description.
“Any time you have people who live in a community like this, anything they say or hear is important to us,” Capt. Chris Dozier, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said. “They may not think it is, but it is absolutely essential.”
Police arrested Michael DeBerry and charged him with the murder.
Anyone with information is asked to call (704) 432-TIPS or contact CrimeStoppers at (704) 334-1600.
