How population growth is stacking up around greater Charlotte region

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s likely not much of a surprise that the Queen City is growing at a rapid clip. For multiple years, the city of Charlotte has seen its population count rise among the highest in the nation.

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released population estimates for towns and cities that showed 2017 was no exception.

According to those figures, Charlotte logged the seventh-highest population increase from July 2016 through 2017 for U.S. cities with at least 50,000 residents. Over the year, Charlotte added 15,551 residents, bringing its estimated population to 859,035. That represents an annual growth rate of 1.8% — more or less on par with 2016 — or nearly 43 new people a day, on average.
