BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Interstate 40 eastbound near Eldred Street in Valdese in Burke County was closed Friday afternoon after high winds from strong thunderstorms blew down trees and powerlines onto the highway.
Lanes started to reopen at about 5:30 p.m.
Traffic was also impacted by downed trees on Flag Gap Road.
