Justin Morgan

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Justin Scott Morgan, 31, has been charged with felony breaking and entering after deputies said homeowners found him on their property Friday night.

Iredell County sheriff’s deputies said they responded to a call just before 11 p.m. about a burglary in progress at a home off Scottish Drive in Mooresville.

The caller warned officials that her husband was holding a suspect at gunpoint.

When deputies arrived, Morgan was being held by the property owners.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, the property owners came home and saw Morgan driving a truck from the back of their home.

The suspect told the homeowners that he was working on the house and had gotten a job off Craiglist.

The homeowner told Morgan that he lived at the home and told the suspect to stop the truck, but deputies said Morgan continued to drive slowly toward the homeowner.

Deputies said the homeowner shot at Morgan once and hit his truck's right rear tire.

Upon further investigation, deputies determined that items were also taken earlier from the home by Morgan to an unknown location.

Morgan was arrested and charged with felony Breaking and entering, felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, felony larceny, felony safecracking, felony larceny of a firearm, felony possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor larceny of a motor vehicle.

"The suspect in this incident is lucky we are not investigating another outcome to this case," said Campbell. "This should be a warning to those who want to make victims out of our homeowners, which could be a deadly choice for would-be criminals".

Morgan was issued a $50,000 secured bond.
