Joint task force finds hundreds of pot plants

LANCASTER COUNTY — Lancaster County Drug Task Force and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents accompanied by National Guard personnel located and destroyed more than 300 marijuana plants.

They used a helicopter to find several plants in the backyard of a home on Watermark Road. Agents on the ground talked to the home owner, Heyward Kirby Tolbert, who said those plants were his.

The search continued and agents found more than 300 plants in the woods next to his home. Tolbert denied any knowledge of them.

Authorities also came across more plants in the nearby woods under a heat lamp in an outbuilding.

In total, agents located 339 marijuana plants and warrants were issued for Tolbert.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana.
