Lake Norman vacation rental home garners national attention from ‘Today’ show, Vrbo list

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Lake Norman vacation rental home — and, by association, the Mooresville company that manages it — has received national publicity this week that’s all but certain to boost business.

That short-term rental property on Chasestone Lane in Mayhew — an area of Iredell County — was featured on NBC’s “Today” show earlier this week, after landing on Vrbo’s “2023 Vacation Homes of the Year” list.

In a live clip filmed May 16 from the home, “Today” show co-host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer spoke to Vrbo’s Melanie Fish about the 2023 list and summer travel tips. Another video showed Dreyer and her friend having a girl’s day on Lake Norman that included hanging out at the home and going for a boat ride. Both segments were sponsored by Vrbo as part of the company’s “Vacation Homes of the Year” feature that also went live May 16.

The same afternoon that Vrbo released its list, StayLakeNorman LLC — which manages the Chasestone property — secured a reservation for the home in June from a customer in South Carolina, said Caleb Hannon, chief operating officer and part-owner.

“It was a four-night rental for $17,000,” he said. “They got an email from Vrbo about their top properties and saw that this one was on there and they went on our website and booked.”

Vrbo, owned by online travel giant Expedia Group (NASDAQ: EXPE) since 2015, picked 10 properties across the U.S. and a villa in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for its list. The vacation rental platform said it chose homes using a criteria that included having a 4.9 or higher star rating,”Premier Host” status and standout amenities and spaces.

The Nantucket-inspired vacation rental on Lake Norman — named Chasestone Peninsula — spans about 5,000 square feet, with four bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms. It can sleep up to 18 people, its listing states.
