LANCASTER, S.C. — Paul Blas has served Lancaster in a variety of roles, from a firefighter to a current sheriff’s deputy, but now he’s facing the challenge of recovering after a motorcycle crash that happened last weekend.
“If I could trade places with him right now, I would,” said Joseph Blas, Paul’s brother. He says since he was a little kid, his brother has stood by his side.
“He’s always been a stand-out brother, he’s everything you’d want in a big brother,” Joseph said.
Last Saturday, Blas was riding his motorcycle on Pink Plyler Road in Lancaster and crashed. He had to be flown to the hospital and underwent serious surgery. Now, he’s in the intensive care unit.
“He had front trauma to the brain -- he was bleeding through the brain,” Joseph said. “He made it through. Thank God, it could have been a whole lot worse.”
On Facebook, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to show up for Blas with prayers and financial donations to aid his recovery.
Joseph is believing in his brother and hopes that every aspect of his brother’s life will be restored.
“He’s too young, he has his whole life ahead of him,” Joseph said. “I just want him to experience what he hasn’t experienced.”
Joseph says his brother is sedated, and doctors will slowly move him out of that state to assess his health situation.
