CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More local retail stores are closing as women’s clothing chain Dressbarn becomes the latest casualty in an industry grappling with shifting consumer trends.
CNBC reported Tuesday morning the chain, one of several owned by Ascena Retail Group, is going out of business and closing all of its roughly 650 stores nationwide. Ascena also owns apparel chains Ann Taylor and Loft.

A quick check of its website finds Dressbarn has seven stores in the greater Charlotte region, including locations at Rivergate Shopping Center and Charlotte Premium Outlets within the city. Concord also has two stores, at Concord Mills and at Afton Ridge, and Matthews, Monroe and Hickory have one each. Across the Carolinas, Dressbarn has more than two dozen stores.
