CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte car dealer is facing criminal charges after police say he altered vehicle titles.
Kiplin Charles is the owner of Kiplin Auto on Independence Boulevard.
Officers charged Charles with multiple counts of altering title and obtaining property by false pretense.
A woman with the same last name, Haydee Charles, is charged with several counts of failure to deliver titles.
Action 9 investigator Jason Stoogenke contacted the defendants and their lawyers on Thursday seeking comment.
Charles's lawyer said the case is a civil matter over a contract dispute with a finance company.
He said there was no criminal fraud with the company or any customers.
