YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The band director at York Comprehensive High School has been charged with criminal sexual conduct, according to officials.
Douglas Brooks was arrested by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
The investigation into Brooks was related to interactions he had with a female student while he was employed as band director at a high school and middle school in Anderson County, according to officials.
The Sheriff’s Office website said the offense happened in April 2012.
A statement from York School District One said Brooks has been the band director at York Comprehensive High School since July 2012.
Officials said they were notified of the investigation into Brooks earlier this month, and he was placed on administrative leave.
They said no student or parent has reported any inappropriate conduct by Brooks to this point, but the district will be investigating further.
The statement went on to say York One staff spoke with Brooks’ references before he was hired in 2012, and there was “no indication of any concern about Mr. Brooks’ relationships and interactions with students.”
The district said it will make any further employment decisions once it learns more about the allegations in Anderson County.
