Local organizations help Gaston County residents struggling with rent

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — More and more people don’t have the money to pay their rent and it’s not just putting strain on families, it’s maxing out the nonprofits who help them.

In August of 2019, Crisis Assistance Ministry in Gastonia told Channel 9 they gave roughly $14,500 in rent aid. This August they gave $45,000.

“Unless we see significant contributions we will not be able to sustain this for a long period of time,” said Kim Wheeler, Executive Director at Crisis Assistance Ministry.

Now, a local group is stepping in to help.
