Local veterans take honor flight to D.C. to see WWII memorial

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dozens of World War II veterans are in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, seeing the memorial that honors them.

One hundred veterans were flown to D.C. early Wednesday morning on an honor flight, which is free of charge. Eleven of those veterans are from the York County area.

A special celebration was held for the veterans when they arrived at the WWII memorial.

Since honor flights began in 2005, more than 80,000 WWII veterans have been able to see the memorial.
