GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Police said a magistrate judge shot at a burglary suspect in Gaston County and then helped police arrest him.
Jeff Funderburk said he saw the man break into a neighbor's house Monday.
“He began to take his shoulder and hip and pushed on the door forcefully," the judge said. “I grabbed my equipment (gun) and went up to the residence and by that time, he had entered the residence.”
Funderburk said the suspect then jumped in a car and tried to drive off.
“He looked like he was coming towards me and I pointed it at him and he changed course. He came by me about two or three feet and I fired two or three rounds into the left tire,” Funderburk said.
Funderburk called 911 and gave a description of the suspect, his vehicle and the direction he was headed that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Casey Philbeck faces felony charges and is in jail under a $250,000 bond.
