CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said deputies took a man into custody a week after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with a baseball bat and coat hanger.
Deputies said Jason Shook was arrested at the Circle K gas station on Highway 70 in Newton June 11.
Channel 9 reported there was a manhunt for Shook after his girlfriend said he beat her and held her hostage for days.
Deputies said the woman was able to escape and run to the Love’s Travel Stop on Southfork Drive in Newton the evening of June 5.
Shook was served several warrants Monday, including larceny of a motor vehicle, elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failure to appear for assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Shook was placed in the Catawba County Jail and given a $25,000 secured bond for some of the charges. He received no bond for the assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury charge.
