Man accused of throwing objects off overpass, onto I-85

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A 21-year-old man is accused of throwing things from a bridge overpass onto Interstate 85, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said it began investigating incidents on Pine Ridge Road, Daughtery Road and Lentz Road in July. Several of the objects thrown from the bridges damaged cars, and some of the drivers were injured, investigators said.

On Wednesday, investigators said they obtained warrants for Matthew Damion Parham in connection with two of the incidents.

Parham was arrested at his home in China Grove, which investigators said is near the overpasses that were used to target drivers.

During the arrest, detectives said they also recovered a red riding lawn mower that appeared to be stolen.

Parham is charged with larceny, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Officials said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact investigators at 704-216-8704 or 704-216-8687.
