Man charged with 6 counts of human trafficking after SWAT situation in Steele Creek, authorities say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been charged with six counts of human trafficking after a SWAT situation Friday in Steele Creek, officials said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged Dondre Mason, 27, with two counts of promoting prostitution, six counts of human trafficking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and assault by strangulation.

On Friday, officers received information that Mason was in a home near Lenox Pointe Drive. After police got to the scene, the suspect refused to come out.

SWAT was called in to assist police and Mason was arrested a short time later.

According to authorities, Mason was charged for his involvement in a series of crimes.

A victim went to police on Jan. 17 and said that Mason had assaulted her and forced her into sexual servitude.

As police were investigating, a second victim told police a week later that Mason had assaulted her, stole from her and moved her against her will.

This is an ongoing investigation. No other details have been released.
