Man charged with murder after shootout at Rock Hill apartment, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A man has been charged with murder after a shootout at a Rock Hill apartment Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded to the scene at around 10 p.m. on Celanese Road for reports of a shooting. They found Rayquan Steele, 27, who had been shot several times, in the parking lot.

Inside an apartment, police found a 22-year-old man fatally shot. His identity has not been released at this point.

After investigating, authorities learned that Steele went to his child’s mother’s apartment to confront her and her boyfriend. After an argument, Steele left, but then came back and both men shot at each other.

Steele was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Once he was released, he was charged with murder, domestic violence second-degree and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

No other details have been released at this point.
