FORT MILL, S.C. — A deadly house fire is under investigation in Fort Mill.
A neighbor told Eyewitness News he saw several fire trucks outside the house on Gilmore Street at about 11 p.m. Thursday. He said at the time, he was just hoping no one was hurt.
"Tonight when I got here, I seen about five or six fire trucks," said neighbor Cecil Gilmore. "I wasn't sure what had happened, but I could tell the house was on fire."
But firefighters said they found one man dead inside the house after they got the fire under control.
Neighbors said he lived in the home by himself. Fire officials have not released the man's name.
Gilmore said he did not believe the victim had power running to the house.
Fire investigators will be at the home Friday to try to figure out how the fire started and why the man inside was not able to escape.
