Man dies after colliding with pickup truck in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A man is dead after colliding with a pickup truck Wednesday evening in Lincoln County.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. on Buffalo Shoals Road at the intersection of Poarch Road.

Troopers said 21-year-old Robert Austin Cornelius was in a 1994 Chevrolet Geo Prizm heading west on Poarch Road when he tried to turn left onto Buffalo Shoals Road.

According to troopers, Cornelius failed to yield the right of way and collided with 49-year-old Mark Edward Beal who was at the intersection in a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup.

Cornelius was pronounced dead at the scene.

Beal was taken to Atrium Health Lincoln with injuries.
