IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies arrested a couple and a 16-year-old after they said a 14-year-old student brought candy that contained marijuana to West Iredell Middle School.
The student gave the marijuana candy to at least three others students last Thursday before school officials discovered the candy, according to Iredell County deputies.
School officials notified the school resource officer who began an investigation into which students had received the candy and how it showed up at the school. Authorities said the school resource officer interviewed several students and determined who brought the candy to school.
The school resource officer contacted the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and gave deputies the student’s address at Jordan Crest Lane so they could determine whether there was more of the marijuana candy at the student’s home.
Deputies met with Samantha Braaksma, 36, and her boyfriend Joshua White, 31, at the home and found numerous bags of marijuana, and marijuana candy in the bedroom and bathroom of the home.
Deputies said they also seized marijuana from the bedroom of Braaksma’s 16-year-old son.
Braaksma and White are charged with possession with intent to sell and or deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The 16-year-old is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Juvenile services will be contacted in regards to charges that the 14-year-old will face.
