Mayor pro tem of Matthews released from hospital after crash near Asheville

MATTHEWS, N.C. — The mayor pro tem of Matthews is back home after he was hurt in a crash in western North Carolina on Dec. 9, his office said.

“I sincerely thank you for your thoughts, prayers, messages, calls, and well wishes,” Ken McCool said in a statement on his social media.

An earlier statement from McCool’s team stated that he and two friends were involved in a multi-car crash on Interstate 26, which is near Asheville.

McCool was transported to a Hendersonville hospital, where he was kept overnight for further evaluation, according to the tweet.

McCool was receiving treatment from hospital doctors and a trauma surgeon to address his injuries.

All other passengers involved have been evaluated and released.

“Over the coming weeks, I’ll take time off to heal, follow up with doctors, and continue physical therapy,” McCool said Friday. “I am beyond grateful to be at home.”
