McNinch House owner reflects on loss of daughter, future of uptown restaurant

CHARLOTTE — McNinch House owner Ellen Davis is trying to find her way after an unimaginable loss. Her daughter, Beth Davis, 66, passed away the day after Thanksgiving.

“It’s just unbelievable. It’s not nature’s way,” Davis says.

The mother-daughter duo had spent the last 25 years working together to ensure the success of the fine-dining restaurant.

McNinch, tucked into a historic Fourth Ward property at 511 N. Church St., has become a staple of Charlotte’s dining scene. It is the only restaurant here to be awarded Four Diamond status by AAA in 2022 — its 24th consecutive year. It has also been recognized by Wine Spectator, Zagat and OpenTable, among others.

Davis knows some things will have to change without her daughter at her side, but she plans to continue operating the restaurant.
