CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County commissioner spoke out in support of the creation of a new town of Ballantyne.
Rep. Bill James spoke at a political candidates' forum Thursday night.
He said the people of Ballantyne could benefit if they split off from Charlotte and formed their own town.
"Having a town council representing these people would go a long way to helping them decide what they want to do with their own tax dollars," James said.
Candidates also talked about forming a new school system for the area, and addressed concerns about recent property tax revaluations.
