Medics rescue woman, 60, after car plunges into pond

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A 60-year-old driver called paramedics her guardian angels after they rescued her Monday morning from an Alexander County pond.

The Highway Patrol said Nadine Redmon's car plunged into the Hiddenite pond after she overcorrected on Highway 90.

"I'm in a car and it hits the water," Redmon said. "I'm going to drown. That was the scary part."

Paramedics Trey Sinker and Anthony Grant who were based nearby rushed into the water after hearing Redmon's cries for help.

"There wasn't any thinking about it we immediately just went in the water after the woman," Sinker said. "I guess that's just part of the job what we do. Sometimes we just don't think when we should."

Redmon, 60, told reporter Dave Faherty that she thought she was going to die, because the water stopped her from opening her doors.

"Guardian angels, heroes, you name it. They are. I screamed and screamed and screamed. Thank you so much. If it hadn't been for them, I would have died," Redmon said.

"They can call us heroes but the real heroes aren't here," Sinker said. "They're overseas keeping us safe every day."
