MINT HILL, N.C. — Two schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after someone reported seeing a man with a gun in the area, Mint Hill police said.
Around 10 a.m., a passing driver reported seeing a man carrying a backpack and a shotgun walking along Idlewild Road near Kale Lane, police said. He was about 1/4 or 1/2 mile from Mint Hill Middle School, in a wooded area, the caller told officials.
Police said Mint Hill Middle School and Queens Grant High School were notified and placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Officers searched the area for about 90 minutes but did not find anyone. Police said there’s no indication that any students were in danger or that the man had any intentions of going on school property.
CMS officials said Mint Hill Middle School was moved to a partial lockdown, meaning people can move around inside the building but security will remain on campus throughout the day.
