Mixed-use project at high-profile Dilworth site gets rezoning approval

CHARLOTTE — SunCap Property Group’s plan to build a mixed-use development in the heart of Dilworth is moving forward following Charlotte City Council’s approval of its rezoning petition.

Council voted unanimously on Monday night to approve the petition, which changes the property at 1401 East Blvd. from neighborhood services, pedestrian overlay to neighborhood business, pedestrian overlay.

When the city’s unified development ordinance kicks in next month, the site’s new zoning will automatically change to a neighborhood center designation, along with the rest of SunCap’s land and other surrounding parcels along East Boulevard.

The $90 million project is expected to include up to 300 multifamily units, ground-floor retail and office space, according to previous CBJ reporting.

The bulk of the 300,000-square-foot project is expected to be multifamily, with 15,000 square feet of retail and 20,000 square feet of office space.
