Lockdown lifted at Monroe High, Middle schools after shots fired near campus

MONROE, N.C. — Monroe High School and Monroe Middle School were placed under lockdown for about an hour Friday afternoon because shots were fired at a nearby apartment complex, officials said.

Police officers searched the area.

“We do not believe anything happened on campus at this time,” city officials told Channel 9.

All students and staff are safe, officials said.

The lockdown was lifted at about 4:10 p.m.

Officials said a home on Forest Avenue was hit by a gunshot, and police are still questioning people. They said no one is in custody, and there were no injuries.
