Motorcyclist killed in crash in northeast Charlotte

CMPD generic (WSOC)

CHARLOTTE — A motorcyclist was killed after a crash Sunday evening on N. Tryon Street, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m.

CMPD says Adrian Lee Taylor Avery, 25, was going north on Tryon Street when a Kia Sorento turned left in front of him near an intersection just northeast of Interstate 485.

Police say Avery was going “above the posted speed limit” when the Sorento turned in his path.

Avery was thrown from the bike and died at the scene of the crash.

CMPD says the driver of the Kia was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash, but said speed “appears to be a factor.” No charges have been filed as of Monday.
