WAXHAW, N.C. — A Waxhaw doctor accused of overprescribing pain pills will spend half a year in federal prison.
Prosecutors say Henry Emery let an online medical provider use his DEA registration number to issue more than 25,000 illegal prescriptions for buprenorphine. It’s a drug used to treat opioid addiction that can also be abused.
The DEA says he pocketed almost $500,000 from the scheme.
He’ll also need to pay that money back as part of his sentence.
