RALEIGH — March has been declared as Women’s History Month in North Carolina, Gov. Josh Stein announced on Monday

The declaration is to recognize women whose leadership and innovation have shaped the Tar Heel state.

The national theme for Women’s History Month is, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”

“During Women’s History Month, we honor the trailblazers who broke barriers and the women who continue to expand opportunity for the next generation,” said Stein in a news release. “Throughout North Carolina’s history, women have led the way as advocates, educators, entrepreneurs, and pioneers, shaping a stronger North Carolina.”
