Charlotte real estate investment firms Stono River Partners and Ascent Real Estate Capital acquired the VanLandingham, a 7,088-square-foot home built in 1913, for $1.5 million in March. In April, the group filed to rezone the property — at 2010 The Plaza — to add two new buildings on the portion it acquired: a two-story, 18,000-square-foot building and a two-story, 5,000-square-foot building, called the Topiary Building and the Belvedere Building, respectively.

As for the actual home, which is a historic landmark, the group intends to embark on extensive renovations and restoration. It may be retained as an events venue or could be converted into office space.
