CHARLOTTE — There is a new voice for the Carolina Panthers.
On Tuesday, the team announced Anish Shroff as the new play-by-play voice for the Panthers Radio Network.
The New Jersey native moved to Charlotte 10 years ago to work at ESPN’s Ballantyne studios. He’s taking over the headset from Mick Mixon after his 17-year run.
“I want to be authentic, I want to have passion, I want to have energy,” Shroff said. “I want to sell those big moments that fans can remember and more than anything, really, I want to have fun.”
Shroff is highly qualified for the job. He graduated from Syracuse’s prestigious Newhouse School, and worked his way up the ladder at ESPN since joining the company in 2008, the Panthers reported.
The fact he’s a local also helps the transition from the retiring Mixon.
“You’re in for an incredible ride,” Mixon told Shroff. “The bigness of NFL games. This stadium behind us -- when this stadium is rocking, I mean I’ve got chills right now. If I had much hair it’d be standing up on its end thinking about how exciting it is. And you’re in for a magic carpet ride that’s going to take you to some amazing places and I can’t wait to listen to you from the seat of my tractor.”
Shroff is a first-generation immigrant. His family moved to the United States from India in the 1970s.
He is now the only minority play-by-play radio voice in the NFL.
