CHARLOTTE — Northwest Naturals has voluntarily recalled nearly 2,000 pounds of cat and dog food due to possible salmonella and listeria contamination.
The lots include 1,272 pounds of the company’s Frozen Chicken Recipe cat food in a 2 lbs. bag, and another 684 pounds of their Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe in a 6 lbs. bag, the recall said. The bags have Best By dates of Jan. 26 and Jan. 25, 2028, and come from lots B-5 and B-19, respectively.
The food was sold at retail stores nationwide and distributed by Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon, the recall said.
No illnesses have been reported connected to the voluntary recall.
Concerns were raised when product samples were collected and tested positive for salmonella and listeria by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Customers are urged to not feed the recalled food to their dogs or cats as these bacteria can infect both people and pets. Symptoms of infection include, but are not limited to: lethargy, diarrhea, fever, decreased appetite and vomiting.
