Not eligible for COVID shot? This website puts you on standby for leftover doses

CHARLOTTE — Many people who aren’t yet eligible for the COVID vaccine would like to get it.

A new website called Dr. B can help connect people with vaccines that would go to waste otherwise.

According to national news sources, there are currently only two providers in the country participating in the website. One provider is in New York and the other is in Arkansas. But Dr. B is close to expanding to other states.

Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke is checking to see if and when the Carolinas will be included.

U.S. residents 18 and older can sign up to be on the waitlist. The site claims more than 1.4 million people already have.

To sign up, go to hidrb.com, fill out your information, and when a provider has an extra dose the site will send you a text.

According to news articles, you have 15 minutes to respond and two hours to get to the provider.

Dr. B is a free service. The site does not allow you to choose which vaccine you get.

Jacob Castano told Stoogenke he’s eligible for the vaccine and eager to get it, but he hasn’t been able to get an appointment yet.

“It’s been booked up,” he said.

Castano said he’d consider using the website.

“Instead of throwing it out, you might as well just give it to people.”
